Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
- On 10 December 2008, the UN General Assembly adopted the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (OP - ICESCR) (See General Assembly resolution A/RES/63/117]. The Option Protocol provides a way for people to make complaints to the CESCR about violations of their rights under the ICESCR. The task of the CESCR will now include examining individual and inter- state complaints as well as making inquiries into grave or systematic violations of socio- economic rights.
